Simon Pegg is known for portraying iconic roles in films such as 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz,' as well as the lead role in the British TV series 'Spaced.' Many of his major works are collaborations with his longtime associates Jessica Stevenson, Edgar Wright, and Nick Frost.
Simon Pegg was born in Gloucester, England. His father was a jazz musician and keyboard salesman, and his parents divorced when he was 7 years old. After graduating from King Edward's School, Pegg studied drama at the University of Bristol and wrote a thesis titled 'a Marxist overview of popular Seventies cinema and hegemonic discourses.' In 1993, he moved to London and began his solo comedy tour, which led to his involvement in television comedy. Some of his notable works include 'Asylum,' 'Six Pairs of Pants,' 'Faith in the Future,' 'Big Train,' and 'Hippies.' From 1998 to 2004, Pegg frequently appeared on Channel 4's 'The 99p Challenge.' In 1999, he co-created and starred in the television series 'Spaced' with Jessica Stevenson on Channel 4, where he also featured his best friend Nick Frost. His performance in this program earned him a nomination for the Best Comedy Newcomer Award at the British Comedy Awards. In April 2004, Pegg's self-written and acted zombie romantic comedy film 'Shaun of the Dead' was released. At George A. Romero's invitation, Pegg and 'Spaced' director Edgar Wright made cameo appearances in Romero's latest zombie film, 'Land of the Dead,' in 2004. Pegg starred in the television series 'Danger! 50,000 Volts!' in 2004, playing Russell Fell, a member of the survivalist organization 'Dead Man Walking.'
In 2007, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright completed their second film 'Hot Fuzz,' which was released in February of that year. The film pays homage to police action movies, with Nick Frost also co-starring. Pegg portrays Nicholas Angel, a London police officer reassigned to the tranquil village of Sandford where a series of gruesome incidents occur. Soon after, Pegg appeared in the film 'Run Fatboy Run.' In 2008, the film 'How to Lose Friends & Alienate People,' starring Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, and Megan Fox, was released.
