Dong Jie entered the army in Dalian through special recruitment of the Warrior Song and Dance Troupe in 1990, and was later sent to the PLA Art Academy in Beijing for five years of dance training. After graduating, she officially joined the Warrior Song and Dance Troupe as a dance performer at the end of 1995. Her first appearance on the Spring Festival Gala was as a supporting dancer in Pan Changjiang's sketch 'Crossing the River' in 1995. She later played the female lead in the dance program 'Harvest Night' on the Spring Festival Gala in 1996. In the Spring Festival Gala sketch 'The Adventure of Working' in 1996, she played a palace maid, not only entering the stage waving a handkerchief with Zhao Lirong, but also holding up the last card 'Authentic Goods at a Fair Price' among the four at the end. She often took on the role of lead dancer in the Warrior Song and Dance Troupe's dance programs. In 2000, she was the bride in the performance of the song 'Together for Life' sung by Nicholas Tse on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, gradually gaining attention from various sides. Many TV stations invited her as a guest performer, and production crews invited her to act in TV dramas, but she had a special fondness for 'Happy Times'. In early July 2000, the Warrior Song and Dance Troupe went on summer vacation. After participating in the third anniversary celebration of the Hong Kong Garrison, Dong Jie returned to Dalian and took part in the final round of auditions for the lead role in 'Happy Times'. Standing out among the final three candidates, she became the girl who was 'happy to the end' among the fifty thousand applicants. Dong Jie won the 2001 Huabiao Award for Best New Actress for her fresh and cheerful performance in 'Happy Times'. Dong Jie made her debut on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala with Nicholas Tse in 2000 and was later discovered by Zhang Yimou to become the 'Happy Girl'. The low-key 'Mou Girl', Dong Jie, who only wanted to be a good wife and mother, revealed many unknown things about her before she became famous and discussed male stars she knew during her appearance on 'Super Interview'. On June 3, 2010, the 'Happy Girl' Dong Jie appeared at the World Expo and was a guest on the talk show 'Face to Face with Stars' at the World Expo. On February 2, 2011, she performed 'Going Home for the New Year' at the Rabbit Year Spring Festival Gala.
